IMPORTANT REMINDER: 

MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS MUST HAVE AN ID TO ENTER THE BUILDING. IF A REPLACEMENT ID IS NEEDED, THEY CAN BE PURCHASED FOR $5 IN THE MAIN OFFICE. IF UNABLE TO PURCHASE A REPLACEMENT ID, PLEASE SEE MRS. AMBROSIUS IN THE MAIN OFFICE. STUDENTS WITHOUT AN ID WILL BE SENT TO THE MAIN OFFICE WHERE THEY WILL RECEIVE A TEMPORARY WRIST BAND TO BE WORN FOR THE DAY.

The weather is not cooperating with us for our Ski Brule Trip on Monday, January 20.  Due to dangerous weather conditions, we are canceling the ski trip for Monday.   There will be no ski trip.  Please check your email and have your parents check their email as well for further information.  

Wednesday, January 15th

MIDDLE-Battle of the Books teams, please meet in the library during your lunch on Thursday so we can have our first battle. Bring your lunch with you as we will eat while you compete. 

MIDDLE- Tomorrow Esports will be meeting in room 236 from 3-4:30. We will be having our Super Smash Duos Championship game, as the Low Taper Fades take on Team Taz & Tedd.

Middle- Reminder to all 7th and 8th grade girls basketball players.  We have pictures tonight so please come to the big gym after school for your picture and then go to your other activities.  Also, a correction from yesterday's game announcement- Maddie made her reverse lay up against Washington.

Middle School: Reminder, tomorrow is the first Makers Club meeting in the Tech Ed. Lab room 168, this meeting is an informational meeting from 3 to 3:30, if you are unable to attend but are interested in being part of the club please reach out to Mr. Cahall or send him an email.

Middle School:

The 8th Grade Girls Basketball Team won both of their games against the Washington Heat last night, displaying some strong defense right from the get go.  Taytum Dorner, Georgia Koss, and Brynn Tochterman stepped in with helper defense to stop the Heat’s passes, shots, and lay-ups.  Leading scorers were Raegan Rentmeester and Evelyn Van Daalwyk with 30 points between the two of them.  Brynlee Hanold had an aggressive steal in Game 2 that was much needed.  Our dribbling and defense won us the games!  Awesome work, Raptors!

In the first game of the season, the 7th grade Lady Raptors traveled to Washington.  Both teams jumped out to early leads and finished with wins.  Whitney Griffin, Nora Rentmeester and Laura Felker lead the way for team 1, while Maddie Day (Ms. Reverse Lay Up), Harper Jost and Layla Gerner lead the way for team 2.  Others contributing in the wins were Mila Koehler, Jada Zawacki, Liv Schmitz, Gabby Loberger, Hailee Hinz, Teagan Hulback, Autumn Taylor, Mileah Gonzalez, Layeesha Wilson and Raliyah Tourtillott-Ford.  Come watch the teams play at home on Thursday vs Bay View.

Monday, January 13

Culinary Club Members: Due to the amazing response to our first lab, I would like to split our group up into a Tuesday group and a Wednesday group. Craft Club will meet today from 3-4.  We earned some money with the sucker fundraiser, now we get to choose a few projects to work on. We will also decorate some lockers. 

Friday, January 10th

The 2025 all school Science fair is officially underway.  Our student “Dream Team” who will assist with the fair are 8th graders Michelle Bernardy, Georgia Koss and Makaela Van Winkle. They have prepared a ten minute slideshow explaining the Fair to any teachers who invite them to their classrooms.

Students who are interested in doing a project for the fair should speak to Mr. Auger in room 132, or, better yet, arrange to have lunch with Mr. Auger to discuss your interest in a project.

Middle school students, please step up to the plate for the fair.  Your involvement serves as a model to our elementary students.

Middle- Student Council will NOT meet this Friday like originally planned. We will instead meet on Friday January 24th from 3-4 in the library.

Do you like to have fun talking, being dramatic, debating or performing? If so then the FORENSICS TEAM is for you!  You can be a member of Forensics and still participate in basketball and other activities. It is a great confidence booster and you can perform your piece in groups! Come and have fun with Mrs. Jensen and Mrs. Van Nuland! Sign up today with them OR your language arts teacher!!! Our 1st meeting is on Jan. 8th in Mrs. Jensen’s room after school from 3:00 to 3:35.

November 4, 2024

Sting Cancer will be having an after-school meeting TODAY (Nov 4) in Mrs. Van Nuland’s room 151 from 3-3:45.  Make sure you have a ride ready to pick you up.  If you can’t make it to the meeting, bring your lunch to Mrs. Van Nuland’s room tomorrow, TUESDAY, NOV 5 during either lunch period to help continue the project we’ll be working on!

Oct 11 Friday

Middle-The 7th grade Team 1 volleyball team won 2 of their games against Edison.  The girls had some amazing plays.  Reese, Jordan, Ireya, and Kira had some awesome serves! Audrey and Elaina had some awesome backwards saves, Charlotte and Autumn hit the floor for some amazing volleys, Harper had a great spike, and Nalee and Ava took some strong hits.  Great job on an awesome season ladies! Remember to bring your jersey to Mrs. Chow if you have not done so already.

What is Student Council?  Student Council is the voice of the school’s student body and members help share students ideas, concerns and possible solutions. Members lead school events such as themed dress up days, cultural activities, teacher appreciations, and other fun activities in the lunchroom. They also may participate in community service projects such as bell ringing and school-wide food drives. See Mrs. Kline if you have any questions.

October 8th Tuesday

 

Middle School: Attention all Volleyball Players - Preble High School invites you to their Youth Night which is happening TONIGHT!  Wear your Red Smith jersey for free admission, and there will be all sorts of other fun events.  They would love for you to be there as early as 5:30 to help cheer on the teams!

 

Middle School-7th grade team 1 lost a hard battle against Denmark, but played an awesome match.  Serving some awesome aces were Kira, Ireya, Maddie, Charlotte, Laura, Audrey, and Nalee. Autumn and Harper had some well placed tips.  Mila, Harper, and Charlotte did a great job hitting the floor and diving for all volleyballs. Ireya, Ava, Audrey and Jordan had some great backwards saves.  Awesome job ladies.  

 

7th Grade Volleyball Team 2 went 1 and 4 against Denmark on Monday, but hustled and had lots of great plays. Kelsey, Sophia, and Layeesha served a lot of, Hailee played well at the net and some nice returns, as did Samantha, Yousra, and Aubrey. Nora’s serves and great passes helped the team win the first game.  Great team effort, 7th grade Team 2!

 

Middle school:  The 8th grade team 2 volleyball team was on fire last night at Red Smith, winning the match against Denmark.  Their nonstop communication and determination led  to a very successful night of volleyball.  Annika had a sweet tip that no one could return, while Raegan and Autumn were hustlers, making many amazing saves.  Aliya passed  a beautiful ball to Brielle, who set the ball perfectly to Kate, who smashed it across the net!   Abby and Alaska showed Denmark what flawless passing is all about! Way to work as a team girls and take this big win!  Hope to see the stands full this Thursday at the last volleyball match of the year against Edison.

 

Middle school: Unlike our Packers, who lost against the Vikings, the 8th grade Volleyball Team 1 had a strong match win against the Vikings of Denmark!  After the first game warm-up, the Raptors went on to return some tough Denmark serve drives with Melina having some great ideas in the front row with net coverage.  Lila had some awesome contact with the ball from the front and back rows throughout all games, communicating with her team and leading the court.  Portia and Calleigh were our strongest servers of the night, with Denmark not knowing how to return those speedy serves!  Ellowyn and Aleyna did not shy away from the Denmark hits, returning the ball over the net and finding their court holes.  Reagan worked the court as a setter and a hitter and Bella and Anisha solidified their hitting skills!  Unbelievable win, Raptors- way to be a team!

Monday October 7-

Middle-Students in musical paint crew B will be meeting after school this week from 3-5. Please go to Mx.Mevis’ room (165) after school today, and be ready to do some painting!

Middle-7th grade Team 1 volleyball lost their match against Wrightstown.  Despite the loss, the girls played great! Brenna had a block, Nalee and Harper had some great spikes, Maddie, Nalee, and Charlotte had some great saves.  Ava took a lot of great first hits.  Nice job ladies. 

 

Middle: 8th grade team 2 volleyball played an amazing game of volleyball Thursday night against Wrightstown with many bumps, sets, spikes and very powerful serving, keeping the fans on the edge of their seats throughout the night. Aliya and Raegan got the team’s first blocks of the season. BOOM!   Norah, Brielle, and Annika smashed the ball onto the other side, scoring points at just the right times. BAM!!   Alaska and Taytum used their smooth passing skills to get the balls perfectly to the setters.  Tough girls, Kate, Abby, and Autumn hustled, hitting the ground, digging out many balls.  GRRR!   Way to play as a team, work hard, and never give up ladies.  

  

Middle: Team 1 8th grade worked hard and were tenacious with digging out of some exploding serves and hits by the Wrightstown Tigers last Thursday night.  Although they did not come out with a match victory, they should be super proud for playing through each and every game with drive and determination!  Lila Delorey and Melina Gorecki were go-getters and leaders on the court as team setters, moving quickly on their feet and finding holes on our opponent’s court.   Game two was full of three hits and over as well as our strongest serves of the night by Anisha Vang.  Portia Alexander and Calleigh Jacobson did an amazing job with hits and tips over the net.  As talk was strong during all games, we were also able to see teammates, Aleyna Gellin, Ellowyn Headley, Bella Aregoni, and Reagan Spejcher show some bleacher-loving volley to all who watched!


 

Wednesday, October 02

elementary/middle:  The Red Smith cross country teams competed in their final meet of the season last night at the 16 team Pulaski Invitational. The girls 5th place finish was led by Georgia Koss, Kenzie King, Jada Zawacki, Brynlee Hanold and Addison Perry. The boys 3rd place finish was paced by Rowen Robertson of Nick, Cullen LaCombe, Blake Matzke, Caleb Peterson and Danny Cortes. Congratulations to all runners on a great season! Remember to wash your jersey and bring it to our end of season party in the cafe after school tomorrow. 

 

Middle- Applications are available for 7th and 8th grade students who would like to work in the library during their studyhall. Responsibilities would include helping check out books, shelve books that have been returned, and assist younger students with finding their books. See Mrs. Kline to pick up an application or if you have any questions.

 

Tuesday, October 1

elementary/middle:  Get your Seroogy bars before they are gone.  5th grade will be selling after school by door 4 for elementary and outside of the library for middle school students this week.  Thanks for supporting our camp U trip.

Middle- FFA is meeting this Thursday, October 3, from 3-4pm in Mrs. Valentine’s room. We will be working on a project to donate to the pet shelter and planning upcoming events. All students in grades 6-8 are welcome. 

 

Middle-The Red Smith 7th grade Team 1 volleyball team won all 5 of their games against Washington.  Ireya, Ava, and Charlotte had some awesome saves at the net! Jordan, Reese, Kira, Autumn T, and Harper had some great serves.  Maddy and Charlotte had a great set up for a bump set spike!  Great job communicating and talking ladies! 

 

Middle - Red Smith’s 7th Grade Team 2 also had a big win against the Heat when they played at Washington Middle School yesterday.  They won all 5 games because of great communication and a lot of great serves.  Layeesha, Rose, Sophia, Charlotte, Aliyah, Aubrey, Yousra, Teagan, and Habon had some great serving streaks.  Sam was on fire at the net with her serve returns. Layla, Maddie, and Cherlin set up a bump, set, spike which helped lead the team to victory.  Team 2 looks forward to our last away game of the season this Thursday at Wrightstown.

 

Middle: The Washington Heat did not bring the heat to the Red Smith Team 1 8th grade volleyball match.  Our Raptors swept them, winning all 5 games in the match with strong serves, great three hits and over, and so much talking on the court!  There were many powerful servers last night: Bella, Lila, Portia, and Melina led the way with many players trying out their jump serves by Game 5!  Anisha, Lila, and Portia dominated the front court all night and Ellowyn had two strong overhand serves that dropped for Aces on Washington’s side.  Caleigh contributed some first hits and many great sets as our Game 4 setter.  Well-played volleyball!

 

Middle: 8th grade team 2 volleyball won all 5 games last. Kate, Raegan and Alaska did a fantastic job serving.  Aliya was the hitter  of the night with some great spikes over.  Brielle placed some awesome tips on the other side.  Norah and autumn had some nice passes from the back row. Annika and taytum had some aggressive digs.  Way to work together ladies! 

 

FOR WEDNESDAY 10/2 - There is no musical rehearsal tonight for the actor/performers.  Mr. T has an appointment.

Elem and Mid: The Red Smith cross country teams competed here at Red Smith in the East Green Bay Invitational last night. Both teams dominated the 10 team invite. The first place girls team finish was led by Georgia Koss, Brynlee Hanold, Kenzie King, Addison Perry and Gloria Dosh. The boys first place team finish was paced by Blake Matzke, Cullen LaCombe, Caleb Peterson, Rowen Robertson of Nick and Abe Dosh. All runners did an outstanding job on our home course. Our last meet of the season takes place next Tuesday at Pulaski. 

  

Middle School-The Red Smith 1 7th grade volleyball team won their match against West De Pere.  Charlotte, Reese, Audrey, Jordan, and Maddie had some great serving.  Elaina and Jordan did a great job blocking at the net, and Ireya and Maddie had some great saves.  Harper did great chasing down some volleyballs. Awesome teamwork ladies!

 

Middle School: What an amazing volleyball game the 8th grade team 2 played last night at DePere!  Bump, Set, Spike- these girls were dynamite!  Norah, Raegan, and Autumn had some awesome digs, diving to the ground many times!  Powerhouse Kate Reckinger made it hard for the other team to get the ball back over the net.  Aliya pounded the ball with some impressive spikes; while Brielle and Annika were monsters up at the net keeping the ball off our side and tipping it beautifully into the holes.  Taytum, Abby and Alaska made some beautiful passes off some tough servers.  Way to communicate as a team and work together!    

 

Middle School: 8th Grade Team 1 volleyball came out strong with many bump-set-spikes right from the start of game 1 and had a match win against the West DePere Phantoms.  Raptors worked hard as a team, communicating and pumping each other up during all 5 games of the match.  The bleachers were full of cheers and applause from a much entertained audience- from Portia and Anisha’s successful hits to Melina, Lila, and Bella’s strong digs out of serves.  Reagan and Ellowyn each played it off the ceiling for a drop on our opponent’s court.  Calleigh wowed us all with her beautiful serves throughout the match.  Thanks, Team 1, for the laughs and the strong team win!

 

Both teams were in action in DePere last night. The 6th grade team had loads of great shots and stellar defense. They won their game with a team effort! The 7/8th graders moved the ball well on the large field but came up a bit short. Come cheer us on next week!

 

Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27

 

Middle School: Attention football players, there is no football practice tonight after school. Practice will resume after school on Friday. 

Both:  Get your Seroogy bars after school tonight.  We will be near door 4 exit for elementary students or your elementary teacher may take your order and near the library for middle school students.  They are $2 a piece and you are helping the fifth graders earn money to attend camp this spring.

Both: How can you be part of our Red Smith community??? Get ready for Red Smith Dress Up Week. Everyone will be dressing up so please join us! Monday is wear orange day. We do this to acknowledge the indigenous people and what some of them went through many years ago. It also acknowledges the fact that October is NO Bullying Month. Tuesday the elementary kids are dressing like a teacher and the MS kids are dressing like Adam Sandler. Wednesday is Raptor Wear Day and Thursday is Preble Pride colors! Join in the fun.

 Elem and Mid:  Seroogy bars will be for sale starting Wednesday after school for $2 each.  Elementary will be near door 4 at the end of the day or your teacher may choose to preorder for you and Middle school will be outside of the library.  Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday after school for your sweet treat.

 

Both-Next week is our Red Smith Dress Up Week. Monday is Orange Day, Tuesday in elementary is dress like a teacher Day and Middle school is Dress Like Adam Sandler Day. Wednesday is Raptor Wear/Raptor Colors Day and Thursday is wear Preble colors, green and gold. Make sure to be part of the Raptor community by dressing up every day!

 

Both -The Red Smith cross country teams took on the beautiful and challenging course at Meadowbrook park last night. The girls were led by Brynlee Hanold, Addison Perry, Georgia Koss, Gloria Dosh and Aubrey Ramirez. The boys were led by Cullen Lacombe, Blake Matzke, Caleb Peterson, Rowen Robertson of Nick and Daniel Cortes. Come out and cheer for us this Thursday at our home meet right here at Red Smith!

7th grade team 1 volleyball won 2 of their 5 games against Franklin.  Reese had some well placed sets, Jordan and Harper had some awesome serves, and Charlotte and Maddie had a great setup for a Bump Set, Spike.  Great job ladies. 

 

8th grade team 2 volleyball won all five games last night against Franklin.  Our serving dominated the game.  Collectively we had 63 successful serves with 49 being aces. Raegan Rentmeester, Aliya Kozlowski and Taytum Dorner led the way!! Kate Reckinger and Alaska Vang did a great job passing the ball!  Good work ladies! 

 

8th Grade Red Smith Team 1 Volleyball had a match win against the Franklin Bobcats last night.  Right from the start our volleys and serves were on point.  The player that stood out with the most serves for points would be: Reagan Spejcher!  Reagan also stood out as a successful setter with many assists to teammate Portia Alexander for hits and tips over the net.  In Game 1, Ellowyn Headley played a great hit off the ceiling to make it drop on Franklin’s side.  When communication was working, our bumps, sets, and spikes looked beautiful!  Melina Gorecki was definitely the go-getter for Game 5 with lots of moving around the court.  Way to work hard with your volley skills, Raptors!

Volleyball has pictures in the gym after school.  Come with your uniform and a smile. 

 

The soccer teams took on Franklin last night. The 6th grade game ended in a tie. There were lots of close shots but the final score ended in 3-3. The 7th and 8th graders won their second game in a row! They played as a team and worked hard. Way to go! The soccer teams travel to West DePere for their games this Thursday.

Friday, Sept. 20

  • ELEM & MID: The Red Smith cross country teams competed at the Green Bay City Meet at Colburn Park last night. The shorthanded girls stepped up and fought for a 3rd place finish and were led by Brynlee Hanold, Addison Perry, Kenzie King, Aubrey Ramirez and Michelle Bernardy. The boys took home first place and are City Champions for the first time since 2021 and were led by Blake Matzke, Cullen LaCombe, Rowen Robertson of Nick, Caleb Peterson and Danny Cortes. We are super proud of all runners giving their best effort in the heat. Our next meet is the Bayview Invite next Tuesday. 

  • Last night both soccer teams played at Lombardi Middle School. The 6th grade team played a tough game. They made lots of good shots but the hot weather took its toll and the team came up short. The 7th/8th grade team looked great last night with lots of goals scored! They worked together, played defence, made nice runs and passes and won the game! Way to go 7th and 8th graders! Our next game is on Monday home against Edison.

  • Middle School=Red Smith 1 7th grade volleyball team won their match against Lombardi.  Reese, Laura, and Jordan had some awesome serves.  Viviana had a great block at the net. Maddie, Mila, and Autumn did a great job moving towards the ball.  Keep it up girls!! 

  • Red Smith 7th grade Team 2 also won their match against Lombardi!  The girls all worked together to serve strong and call the ball.  There were tons of hustles and a lot of great spirit!

 

Red Smith team 2 8th grade volleyball team played a fantastic match last night at home against Lombardi, winning all 5 games.  All the girls worked hard as a team, calling the ball and cheering each other on.  Great digs, awesome passes, and tough serves led the girls to a victory. Brielle Depagter and Aliya Kozlowski led the way in serving, with many aces!  Annika Haefs and Abby Felich had some great spikes up at the net.  Taytum Dorner and Autumn Benoit-Kramer showed good improvement in their passing skills.  Way to cheer loud and proud for your team, ladies!  Great job by the fans who joined in on the cheers also!   

 

8th grade Red Smith Team 1 volleyball swept the Lombardi Spartans last night, giving up NO

Games for the MATCH WIN!  Our team’s strongest serves and points came from players:

Portia Alexander, Melina Gorecki, and Reagan Spejcher.  Team Bumps, Sets, and Spikes were

seen all over the court with Anisha Vang, Bella Aregoni, Aleyna Gellin, Calleigh Jacobson and

Ellowyn Headley all contributing to those over the net volleys.  Emily Hurst’s serve made for a

one point needed for a game win!  The team was in awesome spirits all night and we cheered

loud and proud! Awesome match win, Raptors! 

Tuesday Sept. 17th,

Middle:  8th grade volleyball team 2 started the season off with a win last night against Pulaski. Kate Reckinger was a powerhouse server, with 15 aces.  Aliya Kozlowski and Taytum Dorner also served up many points for the team.  Brielle DePagter did a great job setting the ball to her hitters, Annika Haefs, Alaska Vang, and Raegan Rentmeester.   Norah MacGrath and Abby Frelich did a great job passing, while Autumn Kramer Benoit did a good job calling the ball.  Way to start off the season strong ladies!  

 

The soccer teams were in action last night in Pulaski. The 6th grade soccer team worked together in very hot conditions and scored a second victory! Way to go! The 7/8th grade team sweated it out on the field but came up short in the end with a loss to a very skilled Pulaski team.  Both soccer teams play again at Lombardi on Thursday.

  • MIDDLE: National Junior Honor Society Members - Mark your calendars for our first meeting of the year on Friday, September 20th in Mrs. Van Nuland’s room (Room 151) during your lunch period.  Please bring a lunch from home or see Mrs. Van Nuland ahead of time for a cafe pass if you need to get a school lunch. (REPEAT MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY, 9-19)

  • Today’s sports teams that have games should listen for an announcement to be released at 2:44.  Athletes are expected to walk in the hallways and change for their athletic event either in the locker room, the large gym weight room, or in the bathroom off the cafeteria.  Find your coach right away at the Activities Door so that buses can be loaded on Baywatch Dr. ready to leave for the destination at 3pm. 

    • Coach Heesacker, Coach King, or Mr. DeMuth will assist with coverage.  

 

Team 1 volleyball players do not have practice tonight. Head on out to Pulaski to cheer on our fellow volleyball teammates. Go, Raptors!

  • ELEM & MID: AVID students are now selling Seroogy’s bars after school!  Bars are $2.00 and will be available for elementary by the door to the playground, and for middle outside of the library as long as supplies last.  Thanks for supporting AVID activities and field trips! The first FFA meeting will be held next week Thursday, September 19 from 3-4pm in Mrs. Valentine’s room. All students in grades 6-8 are welcome to join! FFA will also be taking on the Clean Earth Environmental Club projects this year. For our first meeting, we will welcome  special animal guests, discuss group goals for the year, and nominate a leadership team. If you are interested, but cannot attend this fall due to sports or musical, you can still stop by and sign up with Mrs. Valentine as FFA meets all year long.
